The issue I find with the whole setup is that the remote control that is setup to turn on both your TV and DVR at the same time, often gets out of sync. It's one thing when you have to push a few extra buttons to get the TV on as well, but it simply a waste of power to be walking past the living room later that day, only to notice the TV's little green light is on, even though its screen appears dark, but it's not off, it just doesn't have a picture on it.
If I walk over and place my hand over top of the 48" wide screen TV, heat is pouring out of the top. When I selectivly use the remote to turn off the TV, the screen gets very black, because now it is off.
So, two habits that need changing or forming:
- When you turn off your TV and DVR combo, take a few extra seconds and make sure the television indicator light goes out.
- When you are just walking around in your home, be a little more aware of how dark the TV screen should be when off, so you could spot more easily if it had been left on when the DVR was shut down.
Any other ideas or solutions are welcome.
